Oil + coloured pencil? Curious combination! Do they go well together, have you used oil on top of the pencils or other way around? Either way, gorgeous work! The feeling of textures is just amazing, so life like. The rough metal and stony surfaces- beautiful! :)

Excellent question!
The process is not totally straightforward, but generally it will be paint + varnish + colored pencil that I build up in multiple layers. The colored pencil lets me achieve a lot of the textures, but its important to varnish if you are using them on top of paint. I also sometimes mix a fine pumice gel medium with the varnish to create some extra tooth that accommodates the colored pencils better.
